In my work as a beauty historian I always teach about beauty visionary Madam C.J. Walker, America’s first documented Black woman self-made millionaire. I also regularly lecture about Barbie, and her impact on beauty culture and the way she’s evolved over the past decades. I was absolutely thrilled to be able to interview Madam Walker’s great-great-granddaughter journalist and author A’Lelia Bundles, who worked with Mattel on the design of the Madam C.J. Walker Barbie doll for People magazine.
